The main difference between Pilates and yoga is Pilates focuses on strength, muscle toning, body control and flexibility with the main emphasis being core strength.

Yoga, on the other hand, focuses on flexibility and broad muscle groups.  It offers balance, endurance, strength and spirituality.

Pilates is suitable for everyone as the movements can be adapted to suit each individual’s ability.  If in doubt, please consult with your instructor prior to the class.

According to Joseph Pilates, “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see the difference and in 30 sessions you’ll have a new body.”  Of course every individual is different and, as with most things, the more effort you put in, the more benefits you will see.  I always encourage clients to practice a few movements between classes.  Little and often is generally best.

Please bring your own mat to class.  Any type of mat will do.  A Pilates mat is thicker than a Yoga mat and provides more padding.  However, most people find a Yoga mat is fine for their needs so there is no need to buy a new mat.

Wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement.  Pilates is always done either in bare feet or sock-soles, ideally with a grip to prevent slipping.

Group classes can be booked online or by enquiring through any of the contact methods listed.
