Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What if I find the hike too strenuous?

We will discuss the route with you in advance and ensure that it is suited to your group’s fitness levels.  However, a member of the team will always be available to escort anyone feeling unwell back to base.

Q. What if I haven’t done Pilates before?

Previous experience of Pilates is not required. All the movements will be demonstrated and can be adapted to suit your level.

What about the weather?

Being out in all weathers can be exhilarating.  Some of my best hikes have been when the wind is whipping up and there’s a drizzle on my face.  That said, if the weather is forecast to be extremely windy or rainy, the event will be postponed.

What should I wear?

Expect the unexpected as far as weather goes and wear several layers.  In terms of footwear, it will depend on the terrain  Personally, I always wear runners/sneakers except in winter when there can be some muddy spots and I’ll resort to hiking boots.

What should I bring to eat/drink?

A bottle of water and a small snack such as a piece of fruit or an energy bar should be enough.  The best thing about a hike is working up an appetite so you can truly enjoy a well-earned meal afterwards.  And maybe even a creamy pint of Guinness.

Pilates is done without shoes. Will I have to take off my footwear for each Pilates movement?

It is true that Pilates is always practiced in bare feet or socks but given the nature of this event, no-one is expected to remove their shoes on the way around.  The Pilates element of this hike is really about taking time out to open all your senses to nature and bring a sense of calm.  I’ve often done hikes to see how fast I could complete them.  That’s okay sometimes, but it’s important to relish the beauty and take time to store up the lovely nature vibes before you resume your busy life.

What do I need to bring with me?

A bottle of water and small snack is really all you need.  We encourage you to enjoy the freedom of hiking without carrying a heavy backpack.  We will have a first-aid kit, towels etc should they be required.
